A study on the external space of Japanese public libraries: As public open space in the city

Public facilities and public open space (POS) in cities are facing new challenges the post-pandemic era. Use of Japan's libraries has been declining for years due to aging impact e-readers. After pandemic, offline services once again crisis, external spaces being utilized particularly poorly. These mainly used as parking lots with no connection library themselves, which not brought better POS Japan’s cities. Therefore, this study explores possibility using from a wide-area perspective. The environment existing then interpreted through case studies correlation analysis. Finally, possible directions development derived. We found that if developed appropriately, system can be improved. This bring closer together, increase intergenerational communication serve society, provide more economic operational development. Ultimately, resilience sustainability will enhanced.
